As a result of a fatal accident in Volyn, a district officer and a National Guardsman died while on duty.
The accident occurred on the evening of July 27 at a temporary checkpoint at the entrance to the city of Novovolynsk.
The passenger car, driven by a 21-year-old sergeant of the patrol police response sector, wanted to go around a car that was already being checked at a checkpoint, but ran into a policeman and a national guard. Both died at the scene of the accident.
There were also two passengers in the car. One was taken to the hospital with injuries. Investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation detained the driver. The issue of declaring suspicion and choosing a measure of restraint is being decided.
According to the investigation, at the time of the accident, the 21-year-old sergeant was sober. The deceased national guard was 21 years old. The district police officer is 40, he has two young children.
